The ODHS Talks Programme

The Society holds twelve talks a year, ten main ones and two shorter presentations alongside its Christmas Party and its Annual General Meeting in March.

The talks take place fortnightly from the beginning of October until the end of March, at 8.00 pm on Tuesday evenings in the United Reformed Church, Bluehouse Lane, Oxted, RH8 0AA.  Each talk lasts about an hour and is usually followed by questions.  Most talks are accompanied by slides.

The talks cover topics from all periods - ranging from ancient and medieval history and archaeology to nineteenth century social history and the history of twentieth century wars and conflicts. Although we are not primarily a local history society, there are also usually two or three talks a season on local history, relating to Oxted and its surrounding district, as well as the county of Surrey and the south east including London.

Details of our current programme together with information about previous programmes (dating from 2008-2009) can be found on the drop-down menu on this page.

More information about previous talks can also be found in the newsletters for the relevant year.

The annual individual membership subscription is £20, which includes free admission to all meetings. A reduced rate is available for those who join in January or later, for the remainder of the season.  Membership can be obtained by contacting us on oxtedhistorysociety@gmail.com  or directly through the Treasurer.  Visitors are welcome to attend for an admission fee of £5 per talk.   Entry is free to full-time students and under-18s.
