The Society holds twelve talks a year, ten main ones and two shorter presentations alongside its Christmas Party and its Annual General Meeting in March.
The talks take place fortnightly from the beginning of October until the end of March, at 8.00 pm on Tuesday evenings in the United Reformed Church, Bluehouse Lane, Oxted, RH8 0AA (pictured above). Each talk lasts about an hour and is usually followed by questions. Most talks are accompanied by slides.
The talks cover topics from all periods - ranging from ancient and medieval history and archaeology to nineteenth century social history and the history of twentieth century wars and conflicts. Speakers include professional historians, as well as archaeologists, archivists and representatives of the heritage sector, authors and independent researchers. Talks are also given by some of our own members with specialist knowledge. Although we are not primarily a 'local history' society, there are some talks relating to Oxted and its surrounding district, as well as the county of Surrey and the south east including London.
Details of our current programme can be found here. Information about previous programmes (dating from 2008-2009) can also be found on the drop-down menu on this page.
