Talks & Membership

The ODHS Talks' Programme

The Society holds twelve talks a year, ten main ones and two shorter presentations alongside its Christmas Party and its Annual General Meeting in March.

The talks take place fortnightly from early October until the end of March, at 8.00 pm on Tuesday evenings. They normally take place in the United Reformed Church, Bluehouse Lane, Oxted, RH8 0AA but as this is not currently possible they are being held on Zoom. Each talk last about an hour and is attended by 75 or more people, and is usually followed by questions. Most talks are accompanied by slides.

The talks cover historical topics from all periods - ranging from modern history to nineteenth century social history, as well as medieval and ancient history and archaeology, and international history. Although we re not primarily a local history society, there are also usually two or three talks a season on local history - relating to Oxted and its surrounding district, as well as the county of Surrey and the south east including London.

Details of our current programme together with information about previous programmes can be found on the drop-down menu on this page. Some more archive material has recently been added with details of talks back to 2008-2009.

More information about previous talks can also be found in the newsletters for the relevant year.
